“When the well is dry, we will know the worth of water” – Benjamin Franklin
Scarcity of water is endemic worldwide, affecting over 40% of the population. Unfortunately developing countries and impoverished people are the first to face the full brunt of this dilemma. Home to over 204 million people, Pakistan is on the brink of running dry by 2025.
”Empathy is a quality of character that can change the world” – Barak Obama
In parts of Pakistan such as Thar and Balochistan, the endless search for drinking water further ensnare families in the cycle of poverty, leading to preventable deaths due to water-borne diseases. Families and children are forced to collect contaminated rainwater from open ponds and even puddles, in the blazing sun. They waste valuable time doing these chores, which they could otherwise devote to education, work and household. And they fall deeper into poverty’s trap.
